Lithuanian champions Gintra of Šiauliai announce an important addition as they build next season's squad: familiar face Marija Galkina, a 23-year-old central midfielder, returns to the yellow and blacks.
She will again wear number ten. Galkina represented Gintra from 2022 to 2024, winning two Lithuanian Women's A League titles. She progressed markedly, became an important team member and established herself in Lithuania's senior national team. Last season she represented TransINVEST of Vilnius district, winning league silver.
The central midfielder is known for her vision, ability to control play in midfield and creation of opportunities for teammates. After joining Gintra in 2022, she also made her UEFA Women's Champions League debut.
She returns positively: 'I am delighted to rejoin the champions. I know what to expect at Gintra: clear objectives, professional processes and high standards. I developed here before, so hope to reach peak form again and help the team win.'
Club Director Mantas Radavičius is optimistic: 'We welcome Marija back. I remember her arriving in 2022, eager to prove herself and fulfil her potential, and expect the same now. Although only 23, she has considerable experience, is a Lithuania international and knows the club well. We hope she brings motivation, energy and a desire to improve and again becomes an important figure.'
Gintra continue building responsibly to maintain their leading position in Lithuania and represent Šiauliai successfully internationally.
The club has already announced extensions with Lithuania internationals Tereza Romanovskaja and Justina Blaževičiūtė, the appointment of Head Coach Artūr Sikorskij and Lidiane Ribeiro's extension. More news will follow.
Preparations for the new season begin on 12 January.
