After opening the Lithuanian Women's A League season with two convincing home victories, Gintra stumbled in their first away match.
In round three, the Lithuanian champions 0:3 (0–1 at half-time) lost away to TransINVEST of Vilnius District, who recorded their third consecutive victory.
Starting lineup: G. Vasilenko, R. Beal, I. Kuku, A. Mikutaitė, T. Romanovskaja, B. David, L. Kubiliūtė, J. Blaževičiūtė, E. Šupelytė (68' min. S. Amorim), C. Caliz, K. Johnson (40' min. V. Igbonoba).
Goals:
„TransINVEST“: K. Pereviznyk (8' min.), V. Postol (60' min.) and E. Garcia (84' min.) one each.
The match at Širvintos Stadium began badly for Gintra. Despite enjoying the early initiative and possession, a major defensive error allowed Khrystyna Pereviznyk to punish them and make it 0–1.
Steve Beeks' side sought a quick response, but their attacks stalled near the opposing penalty area. Numerous crosses were confidently collected by the goalkeeper.
In the 40th minute, Beeks was forced into an attacking substitution as key player Kiyani Johnson went off injured and Victoria Igbonoba came on.
Gintra continued to control possession in the opponents' half after the restart but lacked accuracy in the final phase. Bunmi David had a chance in the 58th minute, but her header was saved.
Moments later, a midfield mistake allowed TransINVEST midfielder Valeria Postol to catch goalkeeper Gabrielė Vasilenko unprepared and double the hosts' lead to 2–0.
Despite their efforts, Gintra could not break through the defence, and another counterattack produced the hosts' third goal for 3–0.
The yellow-and-blacks will aim to recover next weekend. On Saturday, 19 April, we host Hegelmann of Kaunas District at Gytariai Stadium at 17:00.
