Following goalkeeper Liisa Tuomi's departure, Gintra began searching for a replacement and have now found one. Canadian Anne Ulliac, 27, will defend the Lithuanian champions' goal. She has arrived in Šiauliai and joined training ahead of Sunday's Women's A League match.
Ulliac spent the last two seasons with Treaty United in Ireland's top women's division. She previously played in Portugal.
Asked why she chose Gintra, the goalkeeper highlighted the club's winning mentality.
"This club has a rich history and many years of dominance. I know the team has an unbroken tradition of winning Lithuanian titles and ambitious international goals. That was an important factor in my decision to join," she said.
She identifies confidence with her feet, long passing, quick reactions and composure under pressure as her strongest qualities.
"I'm a goalkeeper who likes to take an active part in the game. I handle the ball well with both hands and feet, react to fast situations and make decisions under pressure," Ulliac added.
Although Šiauliai and Lithuania are new surroundings for the Canadian with French roots, she has already begun getting to know the city and country.
"Since arriving, I've learned a lot about Šiauliai and Lithuania. I know Šiauliai is the City of the Sun and Lithuania is a basketball country. I'd also heard about Gintra's achievements in women's football. Although everyone loves basketball, football is clearly loved and growing here too. I hope to attend other teams' matches and support the locals," she said of her first impressions.
Club director Mantas Radavičius welcomed the addition and emphasised the team's hopes for her contribution to the coming challenges.
"Anne already has considerable European experience, which gives us confidence. We believe her professionalism and skills will help us both domestically and internationally. The goalkeeper's role is crucial, so we're pleased to have found a replacement for Liisa Tuomi quickly," said Radavičius.
Ulliac will be registered for this Sunday's A League match against runners-up Vilnius MFA Žalgiris-MRU. Kick-off at Gytariai Stadium is at 17:00. Admission is free.
