Gintra continue intensive preparations and squad building for the coming season. Experienced US-born midfielder Connie Elizabeth Caliz, 31, who holds Mexican citizenship, has signed for the 2025 season.
Born and raised in California, Caliz brings substantial international experience from the USA, Spain and Mexico, having spent recent seasons in the Philippines.
She began playing at five, represented Mexico's U20 national team, played for California State University, Fullerton, and was part of Portland Thorns. In Europe she represented Spain's Club Monte and FC Viajes Interrias, and has also played in the top divisions of Mexico and the Philippines.
Connie has arrived in Šiauliai, met her teammates and shared her first impressions.
"The players, administration and coaches have welcomed me warmly, but the climate is harsh. I've always played in warm countries, so this freezing cold is a real challenge. I admit I arrived without suitable clothes, but I'm sure I'll buy some soon and adapt," she smiled.
Caliz feels most comfortable as an attacking midfielder. "I like being aggressive in the penalty area and taking the initiative. I always find a way to shoot or pass into the box," she said. She can also play on the left, using her pace and versatility to deliver dangerous crosses, drive towards goal and shoot.
She will wear number 9. "As an attacking player, I've always been drawn to nine. It symbolises goals and a striker's instincts," Caliz explained.
The club's ambitions and dominance were major reasons for joining: "Gintra are the strongest team in the country. I want to be part of a winning group and contribute as much as possible to new achievements. Wearing this shirt brings responsibility, because this organisation has been winning for decades."
Club director Mantas Radavičius welcomed another experienced player: "Connie is talented and has played in many leagues worldwide. Her European experience in Spain also matters. She will improve our attacking ability to create and finish chances. Although she isn't an out-and-out striker, her skills make her a scoring threat and expand our options."
Gintra travel to Latvia this weekend for another friendly, this time against FK Olaine.
The Lithuanian champions play their first competitive match of 2025 on 8 March, away to ambitious Riga RFS in the Baltic League.
