Gintra of Šiauliai have reached another agreement while building their squad for the new season. Experienced 31-year-old Canadian Tamara Brown has extended her contract for another year in yellow and black.
The wide midfielder joined the Lithuanian champions last summer, adapted quickly and became an important team member. The extension reflects mutual trust. She says the decision to stay was based both on sporting objectives and an environment where she feels comfortable.
'Gintra have become a place where I feel valued and needed. I like the team's ambitions, work culture and clear desire to win. I have settled in Šiauliai, which has everything I need. I feel I can give the team more and cannot wait to pursue further victories. Extending was therefore logical and did not require much hesitation,' T. Brown said.
'Last season was interesting and had different phases, but most importantly our consistent, focused work proved our superiority in the second half. It is good that the core is staying and young, motivated local players are joining. I believe we will have a good group,' the midfielder added.
The Canadian has played in Sweden and Greece. Last season with Gintra she fulfilled her dream of making a UEFA Women's Champions League debut. Her pace, chance creation and versatility give the coach flexibility with the lineup.
Club Director Mantas Radavičius welcomed another overseas player choosing continuity in Šiauliai.
'We value Tamara's decision to stay. It shows the club is heading in the right direction. She has proved her worth on the pitch, is professional and experienced and is an important part of the dressing room. Continuity with players like her helps us build stability and aim high,' M. Radavičius said.
The first official matches are planned for February in the Baltic League: RFS of Riga on 15 February and Saku Sporting in Estonia on 22 February.
