Lithuanian champions Gintra of Šiauliai are completing their 2026 squad, signing 23-year-old American Gracie Knutzen until the end of the season. The defender, who has Norwegian roots, will wear number 31.

Defensive reinforcement became necessary when Aivė Andriuškevičiūtė's injury in a friendly was found to require surgery, ruling her out for the season.

The combative G. Knutzen was born in Utah and began playing at just five. She represented Utah Storm and later Maple Mountain. At university level, she spent two years at a junior college before joining NCAA Division I side Utah Tech University.

After graduating, she represented Albion Colorado in the USLW league before receiving her first professional opportunity abroad, signing for BGC–College of Asian Scholars in Thailand's top division.

Although she valued her experience in Asia, she decided to prioritise Europe for the next stage of her career. Gintra soon expressed interest.

'I chose Gintra for the opportunity to play at a high, competitive level and take part in European international competitions. I felt a good atmosphere from my first days in Lithuania and am really looking forward to my debut. Former player Rashida Beal told me about Šiauliai, spoke positively about the organisation and encouraged me to accept without hesitation. Now I am here, eager to begin this journey, and firmly believe we can reach the club's 25th Lithuanian title this season,' said G. Knutzen, who has already joined training.

The defender is known for her determination, physicality and selfless play. She is most comfortable at centre-back but can fill other gaps when needed.

Club Director Mantas Radavičius emphasised the importance of the defensive addition following confirmation of A. Andriuškevičiūtė's serious injury.

'Gracie is very determined and physically strong, with a firm character. She does not shy away from duels, works hard and in some ways resembles our former players Laney Peabody and Rashida Beal. This is exactly the type of player we sought to make our defensive line as cohesive as possible. We believe her energy will inspire the team, and Gracie…' said the Club Director.

She chose number 31 at Gintra, the same number she wore as a youngster.

'This number reminds me that I play not only for the present, but also for the little girl who always dreamed of becoming a professional footballer,' the new defender said with a smile.

Club captain Algimantė Mikutaitė will also return to the squad shortly.

G. Knutzen could make her yellow and black debut this weekend. Gintra seek their first Baltic League win in round two away to Saku Sporting in Estonia. Kick-off is at 13:00, with live coverage available via this link.
