Gintra seek a Baltic Women's Football League victory this Wednesday and have welcomed a reinforcement ahead of the match.

Thubelihle Shamase's twin sister Sphumelele Shamase joins the Lithuanian champions. The left-footed forward and midfielder will wear number 8.

Like her sister, Sphumelele represents South Africa. The 22-year-old reached the senior team two years ago after youth international appearances.

Having arrived in Šiauliai, she begins her first overseas challenge. Previously, she played alongside her sister for the University of Johannesburg. Last season she was the South African top division's leading scorer with 22 goals.

In 2022, Shamase finished runner-up at the southern African COSAFA championship, scoring twice during the tournament.

Known for exceptional technique and attacking sharpness, she is ready to join training quickly ahead of an intensive schedule.

She eagerly awaits her debut and revealed she has watched live streams of every Gintra match this season.

"I've followed the team since the season began and am pleased we hold a strong domestic position. I'm ready to settle quickly and help win. Thubelihle and I talk daily, and I've watched every match, so I already know something about the team. I'm ready physically and mentally; now I need to join training, learn the coaches' philosophy and wait for my debut. I can't wait," she said after warmly embracing her sister.

Director Mantas Radavičius noted that the twins' experience playing together at their former club and for the national team could be a significant advantage.

"Sphumelele has a slightly different profile and is left-footed, but their connection, developed over years, is key. We needed more quality and depth as fixtures increase and Champions League preparations approach this summer. We hope to see her play soon and wish her a scoring debut," he said.

Gintra's next match is this Wednesday, away to Riga SFK in the Baltic League.
