Ahead of this weekend's Lithuanian Women's A League opener, Gintra introduce another signing.
Šiauliai's women's team have agreed terms with Canadian Kalin O’Brien. The 170 cm player is a centre-back.
After completing her studies in Canada, the 22-year-old signed her first contract with Mistral Sherbrooke in 2021 and represented Burlington SC in Canada's top women's division last year.
Born and raised in Canada, she also has European roots: her grandmother is Irish, and she is currently seeking dual citizenship and an Irish passport.
"I'm delighted to arrive, meet everyone and begin a new chapter. I researched Lithuania and the club, spoke with the coach and quickly accepted. I hope to earn an important role and help achieve top goals. This team are long-serving champions and intend to stay there. I'm here to help," said the defender, who has joined training.
"We badly needed this position filled, allowing others to return to familiar roles. Kalin needs time to adapt, but I believe she'll settle smoothly and bring energy. Her motivation and desire please me, and she has the skills," said Petkov.
K. O'Brien tapo trečiąja klubo kanadiete per visą istoriją. Anksčiau „Gintros“ marškinėlius vilkėjo Tristan Corneil, o praėjusį sezoną sutartį su klubu buvo pasirašiusi Serena Dolan, kuri ankstyvoje sezono stadijoje patyrė sunkią kryžminių kelio raiščių traumą and A lygoje nedebiutavo.
O'Brien is expected to debut this Sunday, 26 March, against MFA Žalgiris-MRU at Gytariai's artificial-turf stadium at 16:00.
Come and support the yellow-and-blacks against the runners-up.
