Gintra sprung an unwelcome surprise on Caput Mundi 2024 hosts LND Lazio in Rome.
The Lithuanian champions intelligently exploited their strengths in Group A to upset the Italian team 3:0 (2:0).
Gintra's cautious initial tactics paid off. Sharp attacks produced a goal and control of the match. Young Dominyka Misiūnaitė scored both the opener and her first Gintra goal for 1–0.
Soon afterwards, Misiūnaitė was perfectly placed at a set piece, reacting first to a rebound and finding the net to double the lead.
Unlike yesterday, when the Canadians fought back into the match, Gintra did not allow a second-half recovery. Kaloyan Petkov's team performed their tasks reliably and secured a deserved 3–0 win with Kaya Hawkinson's goal.
Under the format, the Group A winners face the Group B winners in the final. Gintra have two victories and meet the Welsh side in their last group fixture on Thursday, 29 February.
