Lithuanian champions Gintra of Šiauliai are entering a new chapter in the country's women's football history. They will compete in the newly established UEFA Women's Europa League for the first time, facing Danish runners-up Nordsjælland of Farum in the second qualifying round.
The second qualifying round and subsequent stages use a home-and-away format. The draw scheduled the first leg in Šiauliai for 7 or 8 October and the return in Denmark for 15 or 16 October.
'These matches are a special moment for our club and all Lithuanian women's football. Our UEFA Women's Europa League debut offers another chance to prove we can compete with Europe's strongest teams. Support from our home fans will be invaluable,' said Gintra Director Mantas Radavičius after the draw.
FC Nordsjælland present a serious challenge. The Danish runners-up have strong domestic depth, talented overseas players and professional infrastructure. They comfortably beat Finland's KuPS 8–2 on aggregate in the first round. Gintra nevertheless aim to continue the tradition of making home support a decisive factor.
Tickets for the historic Šiauliai meeting are already on sale through Ticketmarket.
Gintra invite all football supporters to the stadium to witness their UEFA Europa League debut.
